White Hares Garden is a 30×30 inches oil
on canvas of a white hare in an abstract summer meadow full of wildflowers. The
white hare looks over her shoulder at us and is surrounded by random plants and
flowers all completing to be seen. It was inspired by walking around the fields
and meadows of East Sussex in late July. The unharvested fields at this moment
look like giant unravelling carpets of flora and fauna and that has influenced
how I painted this. The white hare is there because she looks right there.
Another influence for this painting was the strange and beautiful landscape
paintings of Gustav Klimt who has long been a favourite artist of mine. He had
a way of taking very odd viewpoints and making them totally fascinating. It is
painted on deep edge canvas, no frame needed and will give you summer forever.
